Remembering the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire

Sunday, March 25th marks the 107th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in New York City, in which 146 lives – mostly young women – were lost when a fire tore through the Triangle Shirtwaist Clothing Factory at Washington Place and Greene Street.  Inadequate fire escapes, locked doors and disregard for worker safety all contributed to this horrible tragedy.  The New York City Central Labor Council, along with Workers United and the Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition will hold a rally on Friday, March 23rd from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the site to remember those who perished and to reaffirm the continuing need for safe and secure working conditions for all workers everywhere. For more information visit www.rememberthetrianglefire.org or call the New York City Central Labor Council at 212.604.9552.
