The New York City Council is currently reviewing a plan to rezone the famed Garment District in Midtown Manhattan. Under this plan called the Fashion Manufacturing and Garment Center Strategy, a large scale initiative will be introduced to minimize (and possibly eliminate) the protections started in the 1980’s to keep the Garment, Fashion and Textile Industries in the Midtown West area. This new plan from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) seeks to move the Garment District to the Industrial City area of Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
