In Memoriam: William (Billy) Mitchell

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of William (Billy) Mitchell on November 8, 2022.

Born January 11, 1950 in Corinth, Mississippi, Billy, as he was come to be known, was an outstanding athlete on his high school varsity football team. Billy enlisted in the US Army in June 1967 and was trained as a Medical Specialist. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, Billy was awarded four Medals of Honor: Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. In addition, he was given two Overseas Bars for having served in the Vietnam Conflict for two tours and a Marksman M-14 citation for serving as a sniper. He completed his military service in June of 1973 with an honorable discharge from the Army.

Billy completed his education and obtained an Associate Degree in Science.

Billy joined the Shubert Organization in 1979 in the security department. He came into membership in October 2002, and spent a number of years at various Shubert theatres. From 2015 to 2018, he was the House Manager of the Bernard Jacobs Theatre. Billy was a joyous presence, loved and well respected by his peers.
