In Memoriam – John Caruso

It is with sadness ATPAM announces the death on June 9 of Gold Card Manager John Caruso in Portland, Oregon. Brother Caruso was 87 years old and had been a member of ATPAM since 1970.

Originally from North Fayette Township, PA – near Pittsburgh – John served in the Air Force in Japan after the Korean War.  Coming to New York City, he studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, taught ice skating at Rockefeller Center, and learned the ropes of theater management from Warren O’Hara and Clarence Jacobson, cutting his teeth on the hit shows Fiddler on the Roof and Cabaret. He also worked for David Merrick.

John’s Company Manager credits on Broadway credits included: the original productions of the Sondheim musicals Company and Follies, The Selling of the President, Evita and the End of the World.  He also toured with Sondheim’s A Little Night Music.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Arlene, with whom he worked on Broadway and on tour, and by a sister, Audrey.    

He will be missed.
