In Memoriam: Bill Lieberman

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Bill Liberman, 80 years old, of Manhattan, NYC on March 8, 2021. Bill came into membership in 1973 and served on the ATPAM’s Board of Governors in the early 1990’s.

Bill was the brother of Suzanne Cohen, of Newton, MA; his brother-in-law, Carl Cohen, and his two nieces, Zoe Cohen of Philadelphia, PA and Phoebe Cohen, Shaftsbury, VT.

Bill grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Boston Latin School. He went on to Boston University where he graduated from the School of Public Relations and Communication (SPRC). While a student he hosted a radio program, Broadway’s Best, which became a standard for WBUR.

In the 1970’s he was Company or General Manager of Broadway stage productions of Porgy and Bess, Oh, Calcutta!, An Evening with Richard Nixon and…, Hedda Gabler, A Doll’s House, and Liza. He was assistant to the producer of the movie, Alice’s Restaurant.

Bill also served in management of Shakespeare and Company, Stockbridge Theatre Festival and Stratford Theatre Festival. He was House Manager of the Royale Theatre for over 20 years.
