In Memoriam: George Boras

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of George Boras on May 1, 2024. George was the longtime manager at the Broadway Theatre who came into membership in April of 1978.

George Boras, age 91, was born in Queens, NY on August 25, 1932 and passed away peacefully in New York, NY, on May 1, 2024. He is predeceased by his long-time partner, Geno Sartori, with whom he established The George Boras-Geno Sartori Fund for charitable giving.

A lifetime New Yorker, George was the ultimate host, delighting his many friends with his perfect recall, sense of humor and lively stories of working in the theatre and of the city he loved.

George managed the Broadway Theatre for the Schubert Organization and acted in off-Broadway productions. He traveled widely in Europe, Asia, and Africa. After retirement, he became an avid bridge player.

According to his longtime friend and fellow Theater Manager, Hugh Barnett,

"George was loved by so many. His gentle style, wisdom, and humor will be sorely missed. He was a true gift to all who knew him! Upon Gene’s death it became a beloved tradition for George to spend every Thanksgiving with my husband Francisco & I and our group, generally 40 or more years younger than he.  In later years George was our only Thanksgiving guest and we loved it!  Thanksgiving will never be the same! "

George's ashes will be buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Crystal Falls, Michigan.

Contributions in memory of George may be made to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, 307 W. 38th Street, NY, NY 10017.

May George's memory be a blessing.
