This report to the Membership has been compiled based on notes taken by some members of ATPAM’s Negotiating Committee and reflect the observations of those members. On Tuesday, June 12, representatives of ATPAM and the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers met at the offices of the Theatre Development Fund to continue negotiations for a successor agreement to the current Minimum Basic Agreement for Off-Broadway which is set to expire on June 30, 2001. ATPAM’s committee presented a list of proposals and walked the League representatives through the proposals offering detailed explanations. There was a frank and open discussion of the proposals. While the League committee did not have specific proposals to offer, they did indicate that they were looking for a radical change in the employment status of Press Agents under the collective bargaining agreement. However, absent proposals, it was difficult for ATPAM to offer any specific counter-proposals. Lead negotiator for ATPAM, Bob Reilly, reported that the session had lasted over 5 hours and that some progress had been made, but that there were significant issues still to be addressed. The committees agreed to meet again on Monday, June 18, 2001 at the ATPAM Founders Room. Both sides recognize that the expiration date of the current agreement is rapidly approaching and that a great deal of work must be done if there is to be an agreement before that date. |
