Union Trustee Appointed Chair of Pension & Welfare Funds

Press Agent Kevin C. O’Connor has been appointed Chairman of the League/ATPAM Pension and Welfare Funds.

In an vote held at the September 1999 Trustees Meeting, O’Connor was elected to the position previously held by Management Trustee Irving Cheskin for more than 30 years. This marks the first time since the inception of the Funds in the 1960’s that a Union Trustee occupies the Chair. O’Connor, who resides in California, is also the first West Coaster to serve as a Trustee.

"I’m flattered and honored to be named the Chair," says O’Connor. "It’s the first time a Union member has held this very important position and I will work tirelessly on behalf of all our participants."

An ATPAM member since 1976, O’Connor has served on the Board of Governors for one term and has been the Los Angeles-area steward (a position he currently holds) for over ten years. He was also the part-time West Coast Organizer. He has worked with the city of Downey as Director of the Downey Civic Theatre for 17 years. Prior to that position, he was the swing house manager, working all three houses, for the Music Center of Los Angeles county for nine years. Kevin’s late father was an ATPAM press agent and his mother Shirley, an ATPAM press agent and an author, is still an active member of the Union. As part of his intensive training to be a Trustee, Kevin has attended every International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plan Conference since joining the P&W Funds and has received certificates for each of the many seminars.

In addition to O’Connor, the Union Trustees include: Susan Bell, Gordon G. Forbes, and alternate Richard Seader . For Management, the Trustees are Cheskin, Arthur Rubin and Phil Smith (both of whom are longtime ATPAM members) and alternate Ben Sprecher.
