Long Range Planning Underway The results of the membership survey were the focus of a daylong Board retreat held in October. The Officers, Board members and Stewards reviewed the statistical information provided by the survey, which was conducted during the summer by Industry Insights, an independent professional research and polling firm. The survey, created by the joint Negotiation and Advisory Committees with the assistance of Industry Insights, provided detailed information on ATPAM’s demographics, opinions about the Union and the important issues for collective bargaining. Polling the membership by a professional, objective third party, the Board, Officers and Stewards were able to gauge the pulse of membership attitudes on a variety of issues. The information contained in the returned surveys was analyzed and sorted into categories and used to develop a long-range plan to enhance ATPAM’s strength in the community and its service to the membership. The results also yielded information that will be used in collective bargaining strategies for negotiations with the League as well as several other employers on both coasts. At earlier meetings, the Negotiation and Advisory Committees also had an opportunity to review the survey results. While the advice on Industry Insights is to closely guard the results of this survey pending these negotiations, one item that consistently turned up in Press Agents’ responses was the issue of health insurance for apprentices. This situation is an example of the usefulness of the survey and how it helped to spur action on an important issue so that a long time injustice could be addressed. Thus, the information provided already has proved invaluable in moving ATPAM forward. |
