MILTON WEINTRAUB SCHOLARSHP

In honor of Milton Weintraub
Secretary-Treasurer 1942-1968

The Milton Weintraub Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1969 to provide financial assistance to the children and other immediate relatives of ATPAM members who were pursuing a higher education. It was named in memory of Milton Weintraub, the first Secretary-Treasurer of ATPAM. During his tenure Milton Weintraub was a leader in the Union’s struggle to organize the legitimate theatre. He also helped to establish ATPAM as an active and respected organization in the theatrical community.


GUIDELINES & REQUIREMENTS

APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY AUGUST 11, 2008

  1. The Board of Governors will determine the total funds available for scholarship awards. The number of scholarships awarded and the amounts of individual grants will be determined by the Scholarship Committee within the approved yearly budget range from $500 to $1000. The submission of an application does not necessarily guarantee a scholarship award.

  2. The Scholarship award is payable to the institution at which the applicant is enrolled and not to any individual.

  3. There are two classifications of applicants:

    1. A member in good standing pursuing a degree at an accredited institution.

    2. A relative of a sponsor member (a spouse, domestic partner, child, grandchild, niece, nephew, stepchild) pursuing an undergraduate degree.

  4. Except for their own children, each member in good standing may sponsor no more than one (1) applicant in any year.

  5. Only ATPAM members in good standing may apply or sponsor an applicant.

  6. Only fully completed applications will be considered.

  7. All applicants must submit a transcript of his or her most recent scholastic grades.

  8. Previous recipients of a Milton Weintraub Scholarship must provide proof of scholastic achievement. A minimum of a B+ average (or equivalent) is required.

  9. First-time applicants must submit a 250-word essay on trade unionism.

  10. All applicants must submit a brief biography.

  11. If applicants do not receive an award, they are urged to re-apply in the future. Each individual applicant may only receive grants for a maximum of four (4) years.
